Every figure we read, newest first.
The LRA's bloody insurgency is one of Africa's longest and most brutal conflicts. It has claimed more than 100,000 lives and displaced more than two million people, mainly in northern Uganda, according to the UN. The group carried out numerous massacres and kidnappings of children, who were recruited by the thousands to fight or to satisfy LRA commanders' sexual appetites.

This case is particularly significant because of the gravity of the crimes committed against the most vulnerable members of society. The evidence shows that thousands of children and women were abducted during the period falling within our jurisdiction alone from July 1, 2002, to December 31, 2005. This is a case of considerable magnitude the largest we have ever handled involving crimes against children.
